“Commonality of Oppression Between Fanon and Marx” is an essay I wrote examining how two authors we read in Unit 1 related to one another. I chose to close read a passage from “Black Skin, White Masks” by Frantz Fanon and Karl Marx’s “Economic and Philosophic Manuscripts of 1844”. These two authors wrote at very different time periods and about very different issues. Fanon was writing about the physcological effects of black oppression in the Antilles while Marx wrote about the oppression of the everyday laborer by the new system of industry. These topics while very different, had striking similarities about the similar effects of oppression on human nature.
